Havens, Interim Fire Chief RE: Proposed Resolution 24570 Authorizing the Port Arthur Fire Department to Accept a Grant from Motiva's First Responder Grant Program. Nature of the Request: The intent of this agenda item is to seek City Council approval and authorization for the Port Arthur Fire Department to accept the Motiva First Responder Grant in the amount of$5,000.00 for the purchase of one (1) Polimaster Personal Radiation Detector. Background The Port Arthur Fire Department applied for the Motiva First Responder Grant in August of 2025, seeking funding to assist in the purchase of two (2) Polimaster Personal Radiation Detectors at total cost of $10,000. The City Council approved the request for application on August 26, 2025, with the approval of 25-360. On October 9, 2025, the Port Arthur Fire Department was made aware that they were going to receive a grant reward in the amount of$5,000 by Motiva. Budget Considerations: There will be no fiscal budgetary impact. The grant funds received will be deposited in Contributions/Donations account 001-19-000-4730-00-00-000 for the purchase of one (1) Polimaster Personal Radiation Detector. Recommendations: The Port Arthur Fire Department recommends approval of P.R. 24570 to accept the Motiva First Responder Grant in the amount of$5,000 as outlined above. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PORT ARTHUR FIRE DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM MOTIVA'S FIRST RESPONDER GRANT PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF$5,000.00 TO BE DEPOSITED IN THE CONTRIBUTIONS/DONATIONS ACCOUNT NUMBER 001-19-000-4730-00-00-000 FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE (1) POLIMASTER PERSONAL RADIATION DETECTOR. WHEREAS,the Port Arthur Fire Department applied for the 2025 Motiva First Responder Grant program in August of 2025, "Exhibit A"; and WHEREAS,the Port Arthur Fire Department stated in the grant application that the funds,if awarded,would be used to purchase two (2) Polimaster Personal Radiation Detectors; and WHEREAS, as detailed in Exhibit "B", the Port Arthur Fire Department received correspondence from Motiva on October 9,2025,that a grant award of$5,000.00 was to be awarded to the Port Arthur Fire Department. Therefore, it will use the funds to purchase one(1) Polimaster Personal Radiation Detector. NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That the City Council directs the City Manager to accept the grant funds in the amount of$5,000.00 to be deposited in the Contributions/Donations Account No.001-19-000-4730- 00-00-000 for the purchase of one(1)Polimaster Personal Radiation Detector. Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution shall be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council. P.R. Z. 5' 3 ao D A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR FIRE DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR THE 2025 MOTIVA FIRST RESPONDERS GRANT WITH NO CASH MATCH REQUIREMENT. WHEREAS, the 2025 Motiva First Responders Grant Program was developed to assist emergency response organizations and communities that host Motiva facilities, as detailed in Exhibit"A"; and WHEREAS, through this program, eligible organizations can apply for funding of up to $10,000 to support the purchases of safety equipment, professional training, or safety education programs;and WHEREAS, applications for the 2025 Motiva First Responders Grant Program opened Friday, August 1, 2025, and shall be accepted until September 30, 2025, and is due by Tuesday, September 30th,2025; and WHEREAS, the 2025 Motiva First Responders Grant does not require a cash match from recipients, making it an opportunity for the city to obtain resources without a financial impact on the city's budget.
