RE: P.R. 24805 - Earth Day Clean-Up Throughout the City
Introduction:
The intent of this agenda item is to request the City Council's approval of P.R. 24805 authorizing the City
Manager to facilitate participation in this year's Earth Day celebration.
Background:
The City of Port Arthur always seeks opportunities to garner participation in the clean-up of the City. To
that end,the City has conducted various clean ups,tire collections, and spring trash clean-ups. Earth Day is
Wednesday,April 22,2026,and the City is committed to staging week-long activities for its final event.The
City of Port Arthur Earth Day Committee has been formed and will oversee the activities of the Earth Day
Clean-up slated for Saturday, April 25, 2026.
This year's theme, "Plastics vs. Planet," highlights the importance of reducing plastic pollution and
protecting our environment for future generations. The Committee has identified major thoroughfares,parks
and other public spaces that will be assigned to volunteers who will register to participate in this worthwhile
cause.
The Committee will be responsible for management of donations from industries, commercial entities,
and community groups. Donations from sponsors will be in the form of volunteers,supplies,equipment,
and money. All donations will be handled according to the guidelines regulated by the City.
Budget Impact:
The budget impact has not been determined at this time; however, it is contingent upon donations
received, and this resolution will be amended before the event to reflect budget impact.
Recommendation:
The intent of this agenda item is to request the City Council's approval of P.R. 24805 authorizing the City
Manager to facilitate participation in this year's Earth Day celebration.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR'S EARTH DAY
CELEBRATION AND VARIOUS PARTICIPATORY EVENTS FROM APRIL 20,
2026 THROUGH APRIL 25, 2026.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Arthur is committed to ensuring that the City is clean and
safe for its citizens; and,
WHEREAS, Earth Day will give citizens, businesses, community groups and agencies an
opportunity to partner in keeping the City clean; and,
WHEREAS, Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with the City of Port Arthur's Earth
Day Committee (Committee) planning participatory events throughout the week, beginning April
20th, prior to Earth Day under the direction of the City Manager; and,
WHEREAS, the Committee has planned a City-wide cleanup scheduled for Saturday,
April 25, 2026; and,
WHEREAS, citizens and local businesses are welcome to participate in the planned
activities; and,
WHEREAS, any donations that may be provided to the City in furtherance of Earth Day
activities will be maintained and inventoried by the Committee and accepted by the City Council
in the form of a Resolution in accordance with the City's donation policy; and,
WHEREAS, participation in the Earth Day Celebration is herein deemed an appropriate
action; and,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.

Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Port Arthur hereby authorizes the City
Manager to facilitate participation in the Earth Day event.
Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution Number be spread upon the
Minutes of the City Council.
