RE: PR 24965 Appointing Members to the Port Arthur Library Board
Introduction:
The intent of this agenda item is to seek the Mayor's approval to appoint a member to the Port Arthur
Library Board.
Background:
Jonathan Sanchez is being recommended to fill the vacancy of Position 7.
Appointments/reappointments periods are based on Chapter 14, Article XVII (Library Board), Section 14-
553 (Terms; Vacancies) of the Code of Ordinances, members of the Library Board serve three-year terms,
which are staggered to ensure continuity of service.
The composition of the Library Board and the procedures governing appointments and reappointments are
further governed by Chapter 14, Article XVII, Section 14-552 (Composition) of the Code of Ordinances.
Budget Impact:
None
Recommendation:
It is recommended that the Mayor approves Jonathan Sanchez to fill the vacancy of Position 7.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION APPOINTING A MEMBER TO THE
PORT ARTHUR LIBRARY BOARD
WHEREAS,the Port Arthur Library Board is established pursuant to Chapter 14, Article
XVII of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Port Arthur; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 14, Article XVII (Library Board), Section 14-553
(Terms; Vacancies) of the Code of Ordinances, members of the Library Board serve three-year
terms, which are staggered to ensure continuity of service; and
WHEREAS, the composition of the Library Board and the procedures governing
appointments and reappointments are further governed by Chapter 14, Article XVII, Section 14-
552 (Composition) of the Code of Ordinances; and
WHEREAS,proposed new Library Board member is Jonathan Sanchez; and
WHEREAS, Exhibit `B" shows the Library Board as proposed with the above changes;
and
WHEREAS,the Mayor has nominated the following Library Board Member:

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR,
TEXAS:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct.
Section 2: That the City Council hereby confirms and consents to the appointment to the
Port Arthur Library Board as set forth herein and as reflected in Exhibit`B,"pursuant to Chapter
14,Article XVII, Sections 14-552 and 14-553 of the Code of Ordinances.
Section 3: That this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.
Section 4: That a copy of this caption of this Resolution shall be spread upon the Minutes
of the City Council.
