HomeMy WebLinkAboutPO 7442 AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE SETTLEMENT OF A PHYSICAL DAMAGE CLAIM Ask C.it of �i ort rthur Texas INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM Office of Safety & Risk Management Date: August 21, 2026 To: Ronald Burton, CPM, City Manager From: Trameka Williams, CPM, Assistant Director of Human Resdur 1 RE: An Ordinance Approving a Property Damage Settlement in the Amount of$18,258.00 for Damages to City of Port Arthur Police Department Unit#2211 (2018 Chevrolet Tahoe) Nature of the request: On March 17, 2025, a citizen was turning northbound in the 5000 block of Houston Avenue as the City's unit #2211 (2018 Chevrolet Tahoe) was parked in the parking lot of 101 HO Mills Blvd. The citizen failed to control their speed, causing their unit to veer off the roadway into the fence and striking the City's unit. Staff Analysis, Considerations: As a result of the damage a claim was filed with the citizens' insurance, Allstate Insurance Company. Allstate Insurance Company has offered the City a settlement of$18,258.00 (Exhibit "A" attached) for the unit. Allstate Insurance Company totaled the unit and seized the title from the City of Port Arthur through Copart title Express. Recommendation: I recommend approval of Proposed Ordinance No. 7442 authorizing the property damage settlement against Allstate Insurance Company for damage sustained to the Police Department Unit #2211. Allstate Insurance Company has offered to settle the claim for $18,258.00 as the final settlement amount. This is considered a fair and reasonable settlement.
