A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR SECTION 4A ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO USE FUNDS APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FROM THE PAEDC JOB TRAINING LINE ITEM FOR THE. PAYMENT OF WAGES FOR THE SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM NOT TO EXCEED X9.00 PER HOUR FOR 10 PORT ARTHUR COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH A MINIMUM 2.5 GRADE POINT AVERAGE WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 09-183, the City Council authorized the Port Arthur Section 4A Economic Development Corporation's (the "PAEDC") use of funds from the PAEDC on-the job training program to establish a program for 10 Port Arthur College students with a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average to place diem in jobs to provide their wages and to place them with jobs matching their career goals; and WHEREAS, at its October 26, 2009 regular meeting, the Board of Directors of the PAEDC voted to reinstate its corporate summer college intern program for 2010 to have the following goals: 1. To familiazize the local employers with the bright young talent coming out of our high schools who are now in college.. 2. To allow our youth the opportunities to test. drive a cazeer path they may have chosen. 3. To retain our local talent here in Port Arthur, Texas. WHEREAS, the PAEDC 2010 summer college intern program will provide a unique opportunity for youth who already possess job-related skills and the knowledge to "learn as they earn"; and WHEREAS, the Boazd of Directors of the PAEDC will use the established guidelines from the 2009 Summer Internship Program for applications and the placement of 10 Port Arthur College students with a minimum of 2.5 grade point average with employers who may have job opportunities in the fields of study of the students participating in the summer college intern program. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble aze true and correct. Section 2. That the City Council hereby authorizes the PAEDC to use its job training funds approved by the City Council for the payment of wages not to exceed $9.00 per hour for 10 Port Arthur college students with a minimum 2.5 grade point average to participate in the 2010 summer college intern program established by the PAEDC with the total EDC funds not to exceed $33,017.60. Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
