R NO. 15701-AUTHORIZING THE RENEWAL OF GRASS CU'I"I'ING CONTRACT TO AFFORDABLE LAWN CARE FOR GRASS-CUTTING SERVICES OF PRIVATELY- OWNED AND QTY-OWNED VACANT LOTS IN AN AREA OF THE CITY DESIGNATED AS AREAA L COMMENT RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt P. R No. 15701,. authorizing the City Manager to authorize the renewal of a contract between the City of Port Arthur and Affordable Lawn Care, for the contract amount of $.003 per square-foot for mowing privatelgowned and Cit}Fowned vacant property in Area A-1. Area A 1 is thaz area of the City of Port Arthur west of West Port Anhur Road, Souch of 60~ Street includes Port Arthur, but also includes Lakeside Addition and the Sabine/Sabine Pass area. BACKGROUND: On February 24, 2009 the City Council approved Resolution No. 09-056 for Affordable Lawn Cate which was the lowest and best bidder to wit for the mowing of vacant lozs in Area A 1 for the amount of $.003 per square foot This contact was for one (1) yEar with the Cit}~s option to renew for two (2) additional yz'ats. The contract has been providing. good service and has met the terms of his contract with the City. BUDGET AND REVENUE IMPACT: Adoption of this proposed resolution will not require a budget amendment. Funds are available in Account No. 001-1401-551.59-00. STAFF LEVEL IMPACT: Adoption of this proposed resolution will have no effect on current staffing IeveL SUMMARY:. Staff recommends that the City Council adopt P. R No. 15701, thereby authorizing the City Manager to execute a one year extension of a contract with Affordable Lawn Care for the mowing of grass on privatelgowned (where owners have failed to maintain the propetty~ and City-owned vacant propeny in Area A 1. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the face and opinions of the preamble are true and coaect. Section2. That forthe purposes of this Resolution, Area A 1 is that area of the Caryof Pon Arthur nonh ofU. S. I-Tighway73, but also including Lakeside Addition and the Sabine/Sabine Pass Area. Section 3. That for the purposes of this resolution, a developed lot is defined as a lot or parcel of land which has one or more buildings on it and a vacant lot is defined as a lot or parcel of land with no buildings on it. Section 4. That the City Council deems it in the best interest to renew the contracrwith Affordable Lawn Care for an additional one (1) year period beginning Februarv24, 20102010 thru Febnrary24, 2011. This is the fast extension. Section 5. Thatthe contractor shall sign a copy of the resolution agreeing to the terms thereof. Section 6. That a copyof the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council 1 P.
