A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A SEARCH TO FILL THE CITY ATTORNEY VACANCY, PROVIDING A TIMETABLE AND FUNDING THEREFOR WHEREAS, the position of City Attorney for the City of Port Arthur, Texas, is vacant; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Arthur, Texas, desires to fill said vacancy through a search process now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS: Section 1.THAT the Director of Human Resources be, and is hereby, authorized to initiate a search process to fill the City Attorney vacancy. Section 2.THAT the process, including proposed timetable, for said search is delineated in Exhibit "A" which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference for all purposes as though it were recited verbatim herein. Section 3. THAT funding in the amount of $ 20,000 is hereby appropriated and authorized for expenditure in said search process. P. R. 15715 THAT a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council. City Attorney Appointment ~077?/I~2P/77~i Transmitted hereby is the proposed recruitment process outline for your review, modification as deemed appropriate, and approval RECRUITMENT PLAN: The following is the recommended recruitment process and timeline for the City Attorney vacancy: 1. Prepare and present for City Council approval recommendations regarding vacancy advertising. [February 09, 2010] 2. City Council approves first response date of May 10. 2010 for applications to be guaranteed maximum consideration. 3. The Human Resources Department will review responses to determine which candidates meet minimum requirements. [May 11 - 14. 2010] [It is recommended the Mayor appoint a Committee charged with the responsibility to review the applications which meet the minimum requirements and recommend finalists to the Mayor and City Council.] 4. Forward screened applications to City Council Committee. [May 14, 2010] 5: City Council Committee reviews screened applications and forwards finalist recommendations [4 - 6 persons] to Mayor and City Council. Mayor and City Council review finalist recommendations and determines finalists to receive further consideration for appointment. Finalist candidates will be forwarded Attorney Recruitment Process February 03, 2010 Page 2 City Applications to complete which will authorize background checks. [,M~a 31, 2010] 6. The Human Resources Department will contact finalists to arrange for on-site visits and interviews for each candidate. Finalist candidates will receive information packets prior to visit which contain pertinent information such as visitation schedule, organization chart, charter requirements for position, general information on City history, etc. (June 3 - 9. 2010]. 7. Tentative date for appointment of City attorney June 15. 2010.
