COUNCIL ACTION MEMO
TO Stephen B. Fitzgibbons, City Manager
FROM Ross E. Blackketter, P.E., Director of Public Works
SUBJECT P. R. #15876 -Extension of Debris Collection Contract
DATE 12 May 2010
RECOMMENDATION:
Public Works recommends that the City Council approve Proposed Resolution No. 15876,
extending the Huffman Construction Debris hauling contract until July 6, 2010 and
authorizing payrnent of pending invoices.
BACKGROUND:
The Public Worl<s Department requests that the debris hauling contract with Huffman
Construction be extended to July 6, 2010 to allow additional time to advertise for bids.
Huffman Construction began hauling debris for the City after Hurricane Ike. It has been
determined that the volume of waste that citizens place out for pickup exceeds the capacity
of the City forces. Therefore, the Public Works Department needs additional time to
advertise for bids for the expiring contract. There are also outstanding invoices in the
amount of $32,867.16 for Huffman Construction needing approval to pay.
BUDGETARY/FISCAL EFFECT:
Huffman Construction has agreed to maintain the same price of $4.74 per cubic yard
throughout this extension.
Funding is available in account 403-1271-533.59-00
EMPLOYEE/ST'AFF EFFECT:
Approval of this proposed resolution will allow the City forces to maintain trash collection
without excessive overtime.
