A P~SOLUTION AS FRES~rWATER INFLOWS ORTI Z ) WHEREAS, the of Port Arthur's freshwater inflows; and P.R. NO. 13012 01/27/05 ts IT PERTAINS TO (REQUESTED BY MAYOR Sierra Club is requesting the City support in their efforts to protect WHEREAS, the freshwater inflows are important to recreational fishermen, bird watchers, and other citizens livings and working in Port Arthur and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, the sport fishing industry makes a tremendous contribution to the economy of Port Arthur through the tourism it attracts; and WHEREAS, the Port Arthur area is an international birding destination because of the tremendous diversity of birds occurring here; and WHEREAS, the sport industries, bird watching, tourism activities help businesses in the area, and commercial fishing and other nature-related support a variety of including hotels and z.prl3012 ressaurants, tour guide operators, marinas and boat dealers, fishing equlpmen5 and supply outlets, and bait dealers and fish houses; and WHEREAS, sport and commercial fishing and other tourism industries can be harmed by the failure ~o ensure sufficient freshwater inflows: and WHEREAS, in light of uhe foregoing, it is important for our governing body to speak out in favor of the Texas Legislature taking steps to prouect and maintain freshwa5er inflows. NOW, THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the preamble are urue and correct. Section 2. That ~he Sierra Club in uheir efforts take reasonable inflows. Section 3.
