NO. 13016 - PURCHASE OF TRANSIT VAN 01/25/05 RECOMMENDATION: I recommend approval of Proposed Resolution No. 13016. This Resolution authorizes the purchase of one Type III transit van in the amount of $90,536. BACKGROUND: The City received a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation for the purchase of one Type III transit van for the transport of the elderly and disabled. The grant was an 80/20 grant with a total purchase amount not to exceed $117,844. The City is responsible for 20% of the vehicle cost. CARTS (Capital Area Rural Transit System), a transit system from the Austin area, has requested bids for this type of vehicle. Their bid document authorized the assignment of a portion of the vehicles included in this bid. CARTS has agreed to assign the City of Port Arthur one of these vehicles. This Resolution would authorize issuing the purchase order for that vehicle. This purchase order would be issued after receipt of the documents from CARTS that are required by the Federal Transit Administration for any vehicle purchase. BUDGETARY/FISCAL EFFECT: The City will be responsible for $18,107 of the cost of this vehicle. STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT: None SUMMARY: I recommend that Proposed Resolution No. 13016 be approved. A REsoLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF A PURCHASE ORDER TO NATIONAL BUS SALES AND LEASING FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE TYPE III TRANSIT VAN WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation awarded the City of Port Arthur a grant in the amount of $94,275 for the purchase of one Type IH transit van; and, WHEREAS, the City of Port Arthur has been received the assignment of one (1) Type III transit van from CARTS; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT the City Council of the City of Port Arthur does authorize the purchase of one (1) Type III transit van from National Bus Sales and Leasing in an amount not to exceed $90,536, as shown on the attached Exhibit "A". THAT this Resolution shall be effective upon receipt of all required documentation fxom CARTS, including but not limited to the assignment and showing that they have complied with the bidding statutes and that National Bus Sales was the lowest bidder. THAT a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
