CI~ Depu~ CNef of Police D~e: February 9, 2005 Subject: St~i~ic~ Crime Repoa The statistical crime report is calculated usxng actual serious' crimes reported to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) division of the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI. The objective of the Uniform Crime Reporting program is to produce reliable crime statistics for law enforcement administration, operation, and managemenu. This information is also available as the measure of 5he fluctuations in the type and volume of crime in Porn Arnhur for Part I crimes. The means unilized to attain these objectives are to measure the ex5enn, fluctuation, distribution, and nature of crime through 5he collection of data on the eight serious Crime Index Offenses. Offenses classified according to UCR definitions are not according to 5he Texas Penal Code. Definitions of the eiqkt serious crimes listed are: Homicide: The willful (non negligent) killing of one human being by another. A~gravated Assault: An unlawful a55ack by one person upon anonher for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. This type of assault usually is accompanied by a weapon or by means likely to produce death or grea5 assaults that do no5 involve the use of a or attempting to take anything of value custody, or connrol of a person by force or or violence and/or by putting the victim in the use of bodily harm. Simple Assault: Ail dangerous weapon. Robbery: The taking from the care, threat of force fear. Burglary: or a theft. The unlawful entry of a structure to com~nit a felony Sexual Assault: The carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will. Theft: The unlawful taking, carrying, leading, or riding away of property from the possession or constructive possession of another. Auto Theft: The theft or attempted theft of a motor vehicle. Some examples of Part II crimes that are committed and not reported 5o DPS are: minor assaults, forgery, fraud, embezzlement, buying, receiving or possessing stolen property, vandalism, carrying weapons, prostitution, drug abuse, gambling, offenses against the family, driving under the influence, liquor laws, and disorderly conduct.
