HomeMy WebLinkAboutPO 5498:DONATE SURPLUS EQUIP Memorandum City of Port Arthur, Texas Finance Department TO: FROM: DATE: Stephen Fitzgibbons, City Manager Joseph Broussard, Purchasing Coordinato February 8, 2005 SUBJECT: Proposed Ordinance No. 5498 RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council adopt Proposed Ordinance No. authorizing the donation of surplus telephone equipment to Jefferson County. 5498 BACKGROUND Attached is a list of our twenty three-year (23) old telephone equipment. The Purchasing Division is requesting that the City's surplus telephone equipment be approved for donation. Because of the age of this telephone equipment it has no resale value. The City has installed a new digital telephone system as of December 17, 2004 and has no use for the old phone system. Jefferson County has the same manufactured Nortel telephone equipment and can use the donated equipment as spare parts. This will aid the County because Nortel no longer supports this type of telephone equipment. BUDGETARY/FISCAL EFFECT None SUMMARY I recomanend that the City Council adopt Proposed ordinance No. 5498 authorizing the donation of surplus telephone equipment to Jefferson County. ORDINANCE NO. NO. 5498 02/08/05 jb AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF SURPLUS TELEPHONE EQUIPMENT TO JEFFERSON COUNTY WHEREAS, the City of Port Arthur has surplus telephone equipment, to wit; phone switches, telephones, and; WHEREAS, the City's Purchasing Coordinator has indicated that there is no resale market value of this property (phone switches and telephones) and; WHEREAS, it has been dete~nined that it would be in the best interest of the City to donate the surplus telephone equipment under Section 81.032 Local Government Code. NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: .Section 1. THAT Steve Fitzgibbons, City Manager and Joseph Broussard, Purchasing Coordinator, are hereby authorized, pursuant to Section 81.032 Local Government Code to donate the surplus telephone equipment, said property being shown in detail on Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made part hereof. The telephone equipment shall be donated to Jefferson County to provide the County with spare parts for their existing telephone system. Section 2. THAT all Ordinances in conflict herewith shall be repealed to the extent of the conflict only. Section 3. THAT a copybfthe caption of this Ordinance be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
