RECOMMENDATION:
The Fire Department recommends that the City Council approve the purchase a compact thermal imaging
camera from ADH Fire Equipment Service of Brenham, Texas in the amount of $7,987.
BACKGROUND:
In the performance of rescues the thermal imaging camera allow firefighters to see through dense smoke.
The Fire Department's long-term goal is to have a thermal imaging camera at each fire station. The Fire
Department currently has three thermal imaging cameras assigned to Fire Station #1 (1215 Woodworth),
Fire Station #5 (6099 Lewis Foster) and Fire Station #3 (2232 Canal). The new thermal imaging camera
will be assigned to Fire Station #8 (7800 9th Ave.).
The Purchasing Division mailed bid packets to five (5) vendors with one (1) vendor responding. The bid
packets were opened on February 9, 2005 with the following results:
ADH Fire Equipment Service $7,987
BuyBoard $9,900
HGAC does not offer this camera. The Fire Department purchased an identical camera in 2003 for a
cost of $9388. This represents a $1,401 difference, which is a 15% decrease in the cost of the new
camera.
BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT:
Funds were approved by the City Council in the Fire Department FY 2005 Capital Account # 001-1121-522.92-00
for.the purchase of a thermal imaging camera°
STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT:
None
SUMMARY:
The Fire Department recommends that the City Council approve the purchase a compact thermal imaging
camera from ADH Fire Equipment Service of Brenham, Texas in the amount of $7,987. The price of
$7,987 is the lowest bid with the best value.
