HomeMy WebLinkAbout(6) COMMUNITY PROSECUTION PROG STATUS REPORT On COMMUNITY PROSECUTION PROGRAM 11/01/05 to Present Date FUNDING On November 1, 2004, the Community Prosecution Program was awarded funding from the U. S. Attorney's office in the amount of $125,000.00 to implement a Project Safe Neighborhoods program. ACTIVE PROGRAMS Community Service- Community Prosecution continues to provide community service for those individuals who have incurred tickets in Municipal court and are financially unable to pay the f'me. Project Safe Neighborhoods- This program began in November with the goal of tracking and prosecuting every gunshot fired. A team of three Port Arthur Police Detectives, two Alcohol, Tobacco and Firem-J~s Agent work with us to combat gun violence in Port Arthur. Eddie Eagle Program- This program is designed to educate elementary children ages Pre-K through 2nd grade on the dangers of guns. A trained Port Arthur Policeman dresses up in the "Eddie Eagle" costume to motivate the children to be gun free. SAVE Students Against Violence Everywhere- A national organization that has started a new chapter on Memorial High School campus as a proactive step toward curbing violence in schools. TEEN COURTmPort Arthur- Teen Court is an opportunity for juveniles who have received tickets through Municipal court to participate in the judicial process. Teen Court--Port Arthur has been nominated by the Texas Teen Court Association as being one of the innovative courts in Texas. This program addresses all cases with progressive programs such as Anger Management, Self- Esteem & Character Building, and Theft Prevention. Each class offered is a requirement on the Jury Recommendation form. PARTICIPANTS Community Service Adults 67 Juveniles 72 Teen Court Juveniles 92
