SUBJECT: P.R. NO. 13147 - PUBLIC HEARING FOR STREET NAME CHANGE

RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend that Proposed Resolution No. 13417 be approved. This Resolution would
consider calling a public hearing to consider renaming W. 7th Street and 7th Street from
Houston Ave. to Woodworth Blvd. to Rev. Dr. Ransom Howard St.
BACKGROUND:
The Port Arthur Code of Ordinances provides that if 75% of the businesses and 75% of
the residences along a street agree to a proposed name change, that a public heating shall
be called to consider the request. The required signatures have been provided for this
proposed name change.
BUDGETARY/FISCAL EFFECT:
None
STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT:
None
SUMMARY:
I recommend that Proposed Resolution No. 13417 be approved.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION CALLING A PUBLIC HEARING TO
CONSIDER WHETHER OR NOT TO RENAME W. 7TM ST.
AND 7TM STREET BETWEEN HOUSTON AVE. AND
WOOl}WORTH BLVD. TO REV. DR. RANSOM HOWARD
ST.
WHEREAS, a request has been made to change the name of W. 7th St. and 7th St. from Houston
Ave. to Woodworth Blvd. to Rev. Dr. Ransom Howard; and,
WHEREAS, 75% of the existing businesses and 75% of the existing residences have approved the
change; and; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR:
THAT the City Council of the City of Port Arthur will hold a public hearing to receive citizen
comment on the proposed street name change on June 7, 2005 at 7:00 pm in the City Council
Chambers, City Hall, 444 4t~ Street, Port Arthur, Texas.
THAT the City Secretary shall publish notice of this public hearing in the official newspaper of the
City at least 7 days before the public hearing.
THAT a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
