"Remember, we are here to serve the citizens of Port Arthur" CITY OF PORT ARTHUR Public Works Department MEMORANDUM TO: Stephen B. Fitzgibbons, City Manager FROM: Ross E. Blackketter, P. E., Director of Public Works 1 DATE: 08 September 2011 (f RE: Public Works Take Home Vehicles The Public Works Department provides take home vehicles (F150 pickup trucks) for the Drainage, Streets, and Electrical Superintendents, who live in Groves, Port Arthur, and Port Neches. These are to minimize the response time in the event of them being called out after hours for an emergency situation. With each of these vehicles driven to work and back each day, the weekly mileage is approximately 200 miles. This results in a fuel consumption of about 14 gallons per week for all three. In addition, the Electrical Division has an electrician on standby each day that is allowed to drive a service truck home for rapid response to emergency callouts. Two of our five electricians live out of town (Bridge City and Beaumont). The use of this truck for their commute five days a week averages to approximately 140 miles per week. This results in an average fuel consumption of about 10 gallons per week. Two Drainage supervisors have take home service trucks to allow them to respond to situations involving the pump stations as needed. Their weekly commute from Nederland is about 165 miles, for a fuel usage of approximately 13 gallons each week. The Streets and Drainage Divisions also maintain a Public Works standby employee. This employee takes a service truck home each night to provide for call outs as needed by the Police and Fire Departments for barricades and other emergencies. At this time, all of these employees live in Port Arthur. The use of this truck for the various employees' commute five days a week averages to approximately 60 miles per week, for a fuel usage of about 4.5 gallons. Please call me if you have any questions. cc: John A.
