A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) POLICE VEHICLES VIA THE TXSMARTBUY STATE CONTRACT FROM RELIABLE CHEVROLET OF RICHARDSON, TEXAS IN THE AMOUNT OF $68,466.78; FUNDING AVAILABLE IN ACCOUNT NUMBER 625 - 1801 - 521.93 -00. WHEREAS, the Police Department has found it necessary to purchase two (2) Chevrolet Tahoe PPV police vehicles for the Advanced Accident Investigation Team and for the Canine Unit; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 271, Subchapter D, of the Local Government Code, a city may participate in cooperative purchasing programs established by the State Facilities Commission for the purchase of goods at prices established through purchase contracts of the Commission; and, WHEREAS, the Police Department along with the Purchasing Department have reviewed the costs of various vendors and determined that it is most cost effective to purchase said vehicles through the Texas Smart Buy State contract #071- 072 -AC; and WHEREAS, the first unit will be used for the Shift Commander Lieutenant who supervises the Advanced Accident Investigation Team. This Lieutenant currently uses a Dodge Charger, however, due to the large amount of specialized equipment needed for accident scenes, the police department will be better served by having the equipment readily available for this unit; WHEREAS, the second unit will be used for the Sergeant over the Canine unit and he is also currently over the Special Response Team, which requires him to carry a large amount of extra s.pr16843 equipment in his unit. The Sergeant currently uses a sedan, which has high mileage and the purchase of a Tahoe will be more practical; and WHEREAS, there are no local Chevrolet Tahoe dealerships that are authorized to sell fleet vehicles through Texas Smart Buy or HGAC; and WHEREAS, the contract pricing worksheet for the vehicles is attached to as Exhibit "A"; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase is available in account number 625 - 1801 - 521.93 -00. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. The facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That the Police Department is hereby authorized to purchase two (2) police vehicles from Reliable Chevrolet of Richardson, Texas through Texas Smart Buy State contract # 071- 072 -AC for the total amount of $68,466.78. Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution shall be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
