"Open Space Planning Clarification"
Open Space Planning is the provision of designated areas which are to be
maintained in a "natural format ". This is done for two (2) primary reasons: (1) to
preserve in as pristine a state as possible the natural resources and habitats
which exist in various areas, and (2) to facilitate the interaction with,
appreciation of, and education regarding, these natural resources and habitats.
The City of Port Arthur places significant value on these natural resources
and habitats; therefore, every effort will be made to preserve them through open
space planning. The City will proactively seek opportunities on its own, and in
partnership with other entities, businesses, and individuals, to engage in open
space planning. Said planning takes on special significance in urban areas in
facilitating availability of these resources to residents.
Open Space planning will involve the full gamut of concepts, based on the
identified location, including, but not limited to, trails, hiking paths, green space,
natural habitat and fauna preservation, and water feature preservation. All
planning, and implementation, will reflect the best available infoiination,
research, and literature related to, and underpinning, o en s ace planning. . P p p g
