Blanton, Chief of Police DATE: 2/1/12 Re: Proposed Resolution 16873 RECOMMENDATION The Police Department recommends the City Council approve a proposed resolution authorizing a Change Order to the contract with Daniels Building and Construction Inc. This change order will increase the price in the contract by $10,555 and extend the contract date from March 31 2012 to March 31 2012. BACKGROUND On 12 -1 -2009, the City Council awarded the contract for renovation of the Police, Fire and Municipal Court to Daniels Building and Construction, Inc. Beaumont, Texas in the original contract amount of $2,246,511. The State sent a representative to conduct an ADA compliance inspection. This inspection failed due to no handicap parking, no handicap crossing, the lack of ramps and automatic door openings on the new store front at the Police Building. The City was given 90 days to comply. BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT This change order will increase the contract price by $10,555 for a new total contract price of $2,388,809.71 STAFF/EMPLOYEE EFFECT None SUMMARY The Police Department recommends the City Council approve a proposed resolution authorizing a Change Order to the contract with Daniels Building and Construction Inc. FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE POLICE, FIRE AND MUNICIPAL COURT BUILDINGS AT 645 4 1.11 . ST AND 333 WACO AVENUE INCREASING THE COST BY $10,555 AND EXTENDING THE CONTRACT FROM MARCH 1 2012 TO MARCH 31 2012. 'WHEREAS, on 12 -1 -2009, the City Council awarded the contract for renovation of the Police, Fire and Municipal Court to Daniels Building and Construction, Inc. Beaumont, Texas in the original contract amount of $2,246,511; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to increase the contract by $10,555 to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act by creating handicap access, parking and creating a ADA approved crosswalk and entry into the Police Building, This would also require additional work time and would extend the contract end date from March 1 2012 to March 31 2012; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That Change Order No. 6 is herein approved and the Acting City Manager is authorized to execute said Change Order as delineated in Exhibit A attached hereto. Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
