The letter requests that the City consider underwriting the half of the cost of painting and leveling the Pompeiian Villa. The City's share of the cost under the proposal is $24,125. At year end, September 30, 2011, the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund had an unencumbered balance of $168,561. These costs would be eligible for funding from this source, if the Council desired to fund this request. I would ask that this item be placed on the City Council agenda for discussion and direction. PO T ARTHU I n HISTORICAL SOCIETY P.O. BOX 310 • PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS 77641 March 14, 2012 Ms. Rebecca Underhill, Assistant City Manager- Finance City of Port Arthur P.O. Box 1089 Port Arthur, Texas 77641 Re: Pompeiian Villa Dear Becky: This proposal is submitted requesting funding to paint the exterior of the Pompeiian Villa and level the building. As you know, the City owns the building and the Port Arthur Historical Society maintains it and administers its affairs. The City also funds a part-time hostess position. The estimated cost for painting is $40,750 and the leveling price is $7,500 for a total of $48,250. The Society will be responsible for $24,125; would the City consider underwriting the other portion of $24,125? The building is an historic building built in 1900, listed on the National Register of Historical Places, and hosts about 1,000 visitors a year from throughout the country. If you have questions I'll be happy to answer them, meanwhile, any consideration you may give this request will be sincerely appreciated.
