Blackketter, P.E., Director of Public Works SUBJECT P.R. #17351 - Rescind Res. 12 -503 and Purchase Vactor DATE 23 October 2012 RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the City Council approve Proposed Resolution No. 17351, rescinding Resolution 12 -503 and authorizing the purchase of a Vactor vacuum truck from Freightliner of Austin for the amount of $249,904. BACKGROUND: In Resolution 12 -503, the City Council previously authorized the purchase of a Vactor vacuum truck from Kinloch Equipment & Supply, Inc. However, the purchase needs to be made from Freightliner of Austin, the supplier of the chassis, rather than from Kinloch. Accordingly, Resolution 12 -503 needs to be rescinded and authorization made to purchase the Vactor vacuum truck from Freightliner of Austin for the not to exceed amount of $249,904. BUDGETARY /FISCAL EFFECT: Funds are available in 625- 1801 - 531.93 -04 EMPLOYEE /STAFF EFFECT: None. WHEREAS, in Resolution 12 -503, the City Council authorized the purchase of a Vactor vacuum truck from Kinloch Equipment & Supply, Inc. of Pasadena, Texas; and, WHEREAS, the purchase of this unit needs to be made from the chassis supplier, Freightliner of Austin, rather than Kinloch Equipment & Supply, Inc.; and, WHEREAS, in order to make this purchase, Resolution 12 -503 needs to be rescinded and authorization made to purchase this unit from Freightliner of Austin for the BuyBoard amount of $249,904; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT, the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct; and, THAT, Resolution 12 -503 is hereby rescinded; and, THAT, the City Council award the purchase of one (1) Vactor vacuum truck from Freightliner of Austin, Exhibit "A ", in the not to exceed amount of $249,904; and, THAT, a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council. We hold contract number 347 -10. The PO for the entire purchase needs to be made out to Freightliner of Austin as they hold the Buy Board contract for the chassis. Currently delivery is approximately 210 days, however that has been improving dramatically lately, so hopefully by the time you get this ordered it could be down to180 days. Proposal Date: 9/26/2012
