Attached is P. R. No. 13557 appointing the
Councilmember from District 7 as Mayor Pro Tem, pursuant to
Section 9, Article II of the City Charter. The Councilmember for
District 7 will be taking the Oath of Office at the meeting.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION DOCUMENTING THAT PURSUANT TO THE
AMENDMENT OF SECTION 9 OF ARTICLE II OF THE
CITY CHARTER APPHOVED AT THE MAY 2, 1992 CITY
ELECTION IN THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS,
THE DISTRICT ? COUNCILMEMBER SMALL SERVE AS
MAYOH PRO TEM A/TD SHALL ACT AS MAYOR DURING
THE ABSENCE OR DISABILITY OF THE MAYOR A~D
SHALL SERVE AS MAYOR PRO TEM UNTIL THE NEXT
REGULAR ELECTION OF COUNCILMEMEEHS
WHEREAS, as a result of the election on May 2, 1992, Section 9
of Article II of the City Charter of the City of Port Arthur,
Texas, was amended to provide that at the first City Council
meeting following each regular election of Councilmembers,
beginning with the 1992 election, the office of Mayor Pro Tem shall
rotate in sequence beginning with District 1, as specified in said
amendment; and
WHEREAS, it is advisable to adopt this Resolution in order to
reflect compliance with said amended Charter provision; and
WHEREAS, there was a regular election of Councilmembers on
May 13, 2006.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT ARTHUR:
~ection 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are
true and correct.
Section 2. That pursuant to said amendment of Section 9 of
Article II of the City Charter, the District 7 Councilmember shall
serve as Mayor Pro Tem until the next regular election of City
Councilmembers.
Section 3. That before entering upon the duties of said
office, said Mayor Pro Tem shall take the prescribed oath of office
as administered by the City Secretary.
Section 4. That the Mayor Pro Tem shall act as Mayor
during absence or disability of the Mayor, and shall have power to
perform every act the Mayor could perform if present.
Section 5. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution
be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
READ, ADOPTED AND APPROVED on this __ day of May, A.D.,
2006, at a Meeting of the City Council of the City of Port
Arthur, Texas, by the following vote:
