NUMBER
05-25-06 Co~npmrackCC0~ Award of Bid for a Compact Track Loader for the Utility1 of 2
Operations Department, Wastewater Conveyance
Division.
RECOMMENDATION
We recommend the City Council award the bid for the purchase of a Compact Track Loader to Bobcat
of Beaumont in the total amount of $38,418.00.
BACKGROUND
This unit will replace a 1992 Komatsu bulldozer which was stolen from our job site on Hwy. 365 last year.
This particular style of equipment will suit our needs better today than the conventional bulldozer, as we
are no longer filling our old reservoir with excavated material. It will be used in the routine operation and
maintenance activities of this division. Accessories for this unit will enable its use as a front-end loader,
small bulldozer, and tool carrier for several different types of accessory hydraulics that we currently rent.
Eleven (11) bid packets were sent out and two (2) bids were received on May 24, 2006.
Vendor Manufacturer Total Bid
Bobcat of Beaumont Bobcat $38,418.
Beaumont, TX
Alvin Equipment Co. ASV $50,803.
Alvin, TX
The Iow bid from Bobcat of Beaumont meets the requirements of the specifications and is therefore
recommended for award.
BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT
Our insurance has already paid $22,705 toward replacement of this equipment, and will pay an additional
$14,017 upon replacement, totaling $36,722, leaving a balance of $1,696 to come from the Equipment
Replacement Fund. The original purchase price of the Komatsu bulldozer was $46,722 in FY93.
STAFFING/EMPLOYEE EFFECT
No effect on staffing.
