COMMENT Recommendation I recommend the adoption of Proposed Resolution No. 13579 which awards the bid for the repair of the roof at J. B. Matthews Center for an amount not to exceed $ 7,995 to W. B. Construction and Sous, Inc. of Beaumom, Texas. Said building suffered damage due to Hurricane Rita. Background: The city of Port Arthur was the site of the landf~dl of Hurricane Rita. The J. B. Matthews building sustained significant damage due to the storm. The building has been reviewed by staff and Neches Engineering, Inc. resulting in the determlnat~on of the need for the roofs repair. The Purchasing Division solicited bids for the repair of the building's roof with W. B. Coustruction and Sons, Inc. of Beaumont, Texas being deemed the lowest and most respousible bidder, at a not to exceed cost of $ 7,995. The ~. B. Matthews Building is used as a Recreation and Senior Citizeus Center and provides services to wide age group of citizens. Budgetary/Fiscal Effect: Adoption of this resolution would result in the appropriation of an amount not to exceed $ 7,995 for the repair of the roof. Funds are available for this purpose. Matthews Center suffered damage to the roof as a result of Hurricane Rita; and, WHEREAS, the City advertised in the Port Arthur News on April 30, 2006 and on May 7, 2006 for repair of this roof; and, WHEREAS, seven (7) bids were received and opened on May 10, 2006 for the above referenced project as shown on the Bid TabuLation attached hereto as Exhibit "A"; and, WHEREAS, W.B. Construction and Sons, Inc. of Beaumont, Texas submitted the lowest and most responsible bid in the amount of $7,995; now, therefore, BE TT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT, the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct; and, THAT, the proposal from W.B. Construction and Sons, Inc. for repair of the roof of the .1. B. Matthews Center, in an amount not to exceed $7,995, Project HRMC 123- 2300-901.59-00, a copy of said proposal being attached hereto and made a part hereof as Exhibit "B", is hereby approved; and, THAT, payment will not be made until all work is complete and approved by the Parks and Recreation Department; and, P.R. 13579 Page 2 THA?, a designated representative of W.B.
