HomeMy WebLinkAboutPR 17645: CONSIDERATION OF REGULATORY PROCESSES TO AUTHORIZE PERMITS REAGRDING TGS DEVELOPMENT, LP/VALERO TERMINALING AND DISTRIBUTION CO. P.R. No. 17645 04/08/13 RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION URGING EXPEDIENT CONSIDERATION OF ALL REGULATORY PROCESSES NECESSARY TO AUTHORIZE SUCH PERMITS REQUIRED TO ALLOW THE TGS DEVELOPMENT, LP/VALERO TERMINALING AND DISTRIBUTION CO. PROJECT TO GO FORWARD IN A TIMELY MANNER (REQUESTED BY MAYOR PRINCE) WHEREAS, TGS Development, LP and Valero Terminaling and Distribution Co. have jointly entered into an enterprise to create a crude vessel off - loading and loading facility on Pleasure Island, Port Arthur, Texas, at the former Bethlehem Steel dry dock facility; on Pleasure Island in the City of Port Arthur; and WHEREAS, such a development is in the economic interest of Port Arthur and would create an increase in the taxable values of the city by approximately $70,000,000 for phase I of the project, and give an opportunity for 100 new jobs at a better -than- average pay level during construction and up to 20 during long term operations; and WHEREAS, said facility is in danger of being unable to begin and complete construction in such a length of time to keep the project feasible. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: That the City of Port Arthur urge expedient consideration of all State and Federal regulatory processes necessary to authorize such permits as are required to allow the project to go forward and be completed in a timely manner. Failure to act expediently in this matter could deprive Port Arthur of a major enhancement in its tax base and deprive numerous citizens of Southeast Texas of well - paying jobs.
