Blackketter, P.E., Director of Public Works DATE: April 23, 2013 SUBJECT: P.R. 17654 — Extended Security Guard Contract COMMENTS RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council approve a two month extension for the security guard services for the Public Works Operations Center with Marks and Associates. BACKGROUND: On April 2, 2013 council approved a contract with Triangle Fire & Security (Res. 13 -171) for the installation of a security camera system at the Operations Center. The extension is required to ensure that the facility is secured until the camera system is completely installed and properly functioning. Once completed we will no longer require the guard services. BUDGETARY /FISCAL EFFECT: Funds are provided in account no. 001 - 1201 - 531.51.00 EMPLOYEE /STAFF EFFECT: None. SUMMARY: It is recommended that the City Council approve a two month extension for the security guard services for the Public Works Operations Center with Marks and Associates in a not to exceed amount of $10,396. P.R. 17654 4/16/13 aw RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A TWO MONTH EXTENSION OF AN EXISTING CONTRACT WITH MARKS AND ASSOCIATES OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS FOR SECURITY GUARD SERVICES AT THE OPERATIONS CENTER AND GARAGE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $10,396. FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE IN ACCOUNT NO. 001 - 1201 - 531.51 -00. WHEREAS, per Resolution No. 13 -171, the City Council approved a contract with Triangle Fire & Security of Beaumont, Texas for a security camera system at the Operations Center; and, WHEREAS, the existing contract with Marks and Associates, Resolution No. 10 -120, will expire on May 11, 2013; and, WHEREAS, the City Council deems it necessary to ensure the security of the Operations Center by extending the contract with Marks and Associates for two month until the installation of the security camera system is completed and working properly in a not to exceed amount of $10,396 ending on July 11, 2013; now therefore, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: THAT, the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct; and, THAT, the City Council deems it in the best interest of the City to approve and authorize an extension of the contract for security guard services with Marks and Associates at the Public Works Operations Center until July 11, 2013 in a not to exceed amount of $10,396; and, THAT, an authorized representative of Marks and Associates shall sign this resolution agreeing to the terms thereof; and, THAT, a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
