Richard, Fire Chief Re: Proposed Resolution 18222 Date: March 7, 2014 COMMENT RECOMMENDATION The Fire Department recommends that the City Council authorize the Fire Chief to execute a three (3) year contract with Time Warner Cable Business Class for internet access at Central Fire Station. BACKGROUND The City's MIS Department has advised the Fire Department that the current DSL connection at Central Fire Station does not have enough bandwidth to meet the department's needs. All seven fire stations currently connect to Central Fire Station's server to complete incident reports. Computers at Central Fire Station connect to City Hall's Navaline System via the internet. Time Warner Cable has supplied the attached quote including a monthly cost of $169.95 plus a onetime installation fee of $150.00. BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT Funds are available in Account Number 001 - 1121- 522.61.03 for this purchase. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A THREE YEAR CONTRACT FOR HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS FOR CENTRAL FIRE STATION FROM TIME WARNER CABLE BUSINESS CLASS, FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $169.95 PER MONTH PLUS A $150 ONE TIME INSTALLATION FEE; FUNDING AVAILABLE IN ACCOUNT NUMBER 001 - 1121 - 522.61.03 WHEREAS, the Fire Department operates seven fire stations that have to connect via the internet to the computer server located at Central Fire Station, to fill out required incident reports; and WHEREAS, Central Fire Station has to connect to the City Hall Navaline System via the internet for payroll and purchasing; and WHEREAS, the City's MIS Department has advised that the current DSL internet provider does not provide enough bandwidth for this operation to work consistently; and WHEREAS, funds for internet access for the Fire Department are budgeted in account number 001- 1121 - 522.61- 03; and WHEREAS, a copy of the contract for this project is attached as Exhibit "A "; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR: Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are true and correct. Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute a contract with Time Warner Cable Business Class for internet service at Central Fire Station in substantially the same form as attached in Exhibit "A ".
