Comeaux, P.E., Interim City Manager FROM: Leslie E. McMahen, P.E., Interim City Engineer' i DATE: April 10, 2014 RE: Proposed Ordinance No. 6379 RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council approve Proposed Ordinance No. 6379 amending the speed limit on Highway 82 from a point south of the Martin Luther King Bridge southward to the Texas /Louisiana state line. BACKGROUND Cheniere LNG requested that the Texas Department of Transportation investigate the possibility of lowering the existing speed limit on Highway 82 due to the condition of the roadway and the number of traffic accidents that have increased as a result of Cheniere's activities. The traffic study performed by TxDOT showed that current speeds and the allowance for reducing speed limits based on roadway conditions and other relevant factors made it prudent to reduce the speed limit to 55 miles per hour. TxDOT has furnished us with a Speed Zone Strip Map summarizing their study. BUDGET /FISCAL EFFECT None SUMMARY I recommend that the City Council approve Proposed Ordinance No. 6379. P.O.
