MEMORANDUM

Subject: P.R. No. 18307
The Historical Landmark Commission was original created by
Ordinance No. 90 -63. It was later amended by Ordinance No. 98 -67.
The Historical Landmark Commission shall consist of nine (9)
members, all of whom shall be resident citizens, and qualified
voters of this City. The members shall be nominated by the
corresponding numbered council person, with the ninth member being
appointed by the mayor. The Commission shall be composed of at
least the following:
A. One member shall be a member of the City Planning
Commission
B. One member shall be a licensed architect
C., One member shall be a licensed attorney
D. One member shall be a member of the Port Arthur
Historical Society
E. One member shall be a member of the Jefferson County
Historical Society
Also, all members shall have knowledge and experience of the
architectural, archaeological, cultural, social, economic, ethnic
and political history of the city.
Dr. Sam Monroe has offered to serve on the committee and has
recommended additional citizens that he feels meet the knowledge
and experience outlined in the Ordinance (see letter dated April
25, 2014, attached).

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION APPOINTING MEMBERS TO THE
HISTORICAL LANDMARK COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, the Historical Landmark Commission was originally
created by Ordinance No. 90 -63; and
WHEREAS, per Ordinance No. 98 -67, the City Council changed
the composition of the board as to delete the alternate positions
and to clearly delineate the manner of appointment as denoted in
Article XI of Chapter 14 of the Code of Ordinances; and
WHEREAS, the terms of office of the existing members who were
appointed by the Mayor and Councilmembers from District 1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 6, 7, and 8 have expired as delineated in Exhibit "A "; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Councilmembers wish to appoint the
following members to the Commission as delineated in Exhibit "B ".
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT ARTHUR:
Section 1. That the facts and opinions in the preamble are
true and correct.
Section 2. That the City Council hereby appoints the
following members as delineated in Exhibit "B" for a three (3) year
term, expiring on April 29, 2017.
Section 3. That a copy of the caption of this Resolution
shall be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
