NOT TO EXCEED $25,000.00, TO BE CHARGED TO ACCOUNT NO. 001 -1052-

COMMENT
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt P. R. No. 18320
authorizing the first -year renewal of the contract with Total Safety U. S., Inc., in a not to exceed
amount of $25,000.00. Total Safety has demonstrated that they have the professional staff and the
ability to provide the City of Port Arthur outstanding abatement consultant services. In addition
they are qualified and capable to provide other air monitoring services.
BACKGROUND: The existing contract was approved by Resolution No. 13 -230 on May 14, 2013.
The contractor has been providing good service and has met the terms of their contract with the
City. Total Safety's response and services have been commendable. This contract is necessary for
asbestos abatement for the public's health and safety. We expect to use the services of Total Safety
for the Commercial Disaster grant when the work begins.
BUDGET AND REVENUE IMPACT: Acceptance of this recommendation will not require a
budget amendment. Funds are available in Account No. 001 - 1052 - 517.59 -00 (General Fund).
STAFF LEVEL IMPACT: Acceptance of this recommendation will have no effect on current
staffing level.
SUMMARY: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt P. R. No. 18320, thereby authorizing
the first -year renewal of the contract with Total Safety U. S., Inc., in a not to exceed amount of
$25,000.00. The contractor will submit proof of insurance.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FIRST -YEAR
RENEWAL OF THE CONTRACT WITH TOTAL SAFETY,
U. S., INC. OF NEDERLAND, TEXAS, FOR ASBESTOS
AND LEAD ABATEMENT CONSULTING SERVICES, IN
A NOT TO EXCEED AMOUNT OF $25,000.00, TO BE
CHARGED TO ACCOUNT NO. 001 - 1052 - 517.59 -00
(GENERAL FUND).
WHEREAS, per Resolution No. 13 -230, the City of Port Arthur awarded a one -year contract to Total Safety
U. S., Inc. for asbestos and lead abatement consulting services, with an option to renew for two additional one -year
periods; and
WHEREAS, we expect to use the services of Total Safety for the Commercial Disaster grant; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to renew the contract for asbestos and lead abatement consulting services with
Total Safety U. S.. Inc., for an additional year under the exact terms stipulated in the existing contract, in a not to
exceed amount of $25,000.00.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ARTHUR, TEXAS:
THAT, the City Council hereby authorizes the first year renewal (until June 10, 2015) of the existing contract
with Total Safety U. S., Inc. of Nederland, Texas, in a not to exceed amount of $25,000.00.
THAT the contractor shall sign a copy of this resolution agreeing to the terms of the renewal; and
THAT a copy of the caption of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the City Council.
READ, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED this the 13th day of May, A.D., 2014, at a Regular Meeting of the
City Council of the City of Port Arthur, Texas by the following vote:
