MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor, City Council, and City Manager
From: Mark T. Sokolow, City Attorney ~ ~
Date: July 12, 2007
Subject: P. R. No. 14138; Council Meeting of June 19, 2007
Attached is P. R. No. 14138 calling for a public
hearing to be set for August 19, 2007 as to receive input on the
continued use of Section 4A Sales and Use Tax within the City as
to promote or develop new or expanded business that create or
retain primary jobs, including a project to provide demolition of
existing structures. The funds were approved at the May 13, 2006
Election by Proposition 9. The funds were approved for a two
year period. The total funds for Section 4B projects could not
exceed $500,000 per year. Said period of time can be extended an
additional two years by the City Council by a h vote of the City
Council after receiving public comment of the proposed cost and
impact of the projects. Therefore, the existing funding will end
in May 2008 and could have an impact on the budget for the Fiscal
Year from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008. Therefore, I
would recommend a public hearing be held and that this matter be
considered prior to October 1, 2007.
