HomeMy WebLinkAbout(E) FIRE: GPM PUMPER City of pOrt Arthur, Texas Mayor and City Council Communication Date REFERENCE SUBJECT: PAGE NUMBER Recommendation to approve the purchase of one (1) 1500 GPM Pumper for 01/22/2002 the Fire Department Page 1 of 2 RECOMMENDATION: We Recommend that the City Council approve the purchase of a new Pierce 1500 GPM Pumper to be located at Station #6 on Memorial Boulevard from the Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC) in the amount of $283,991 for the Fire Department. BACKGROUND: This engine will replace a 33-year-old 1969 model Ford Pumper equipment #529 that was sold to Big Cedar Volunteer Fire Department in Hodgen, Oklahoma for $100. Council approved the sale with Ordinance No. 00-17 on March 21, 2000. The purchase of this engine will allow the Fire Department to bring the reserve fleet back up to the recommended four (4) reserves. The Purchasing Department advertised for bids on November 11, and November 18, 2001. The Purchasing Department mailed out eleven (11) hid packets and received two (2) bid packets on November 28, 2001. Additionally, HGAC was also contacted and requested to provide a quote on this bid. The current price of $283,991 is $66,145 greater than the last Pierce engine (pumper) purchased in F~ 97-98 at a cost of $217,846, which represents a 30 % increase. Small tools/equipment for fire apparatus (approximately $20,000) and Radios (approximately $5,500) ar{ not included in this price. BUDGET/FISCAL EFFECT: The City Council authorized and approved $310,000 in the FY 2002 Capital Equipment Replacemen~ Fund Account # 625-1801-522.93-00 for the purchase of a replacement pumper.
