sUBJECT: May 4, 2002 General Election
It is recommended that you consider Proposed Ordinance No. 5252 for
adoption. Candidates are unopposed for the election to the offices of
Councilmember District 2 and Councilmember Position 7 which will cancel the
election for those positions.
A Certificate of Unopposed Status of the incumbent candidates was received
from the Sabine Pass Port Authority which will automatically cancel them from the
joint election.

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ELECTION ORDER
FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION OF MAY 4, 2002
AND DECLARING UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES
ELECTED FOR DISTRICT 2 AND FOR POSITION
7, AND DELETING THE SABINE PASS PORT
AUTHORITY AS A PARTICIPANT IN THE JOINT
ELECTION
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No.' 02-10,
the City
for the purpose
2, 3, 4 and
delineated
in
ordered the May 4, 2002 general election
of electing councilmembers from Districts 1,
Positions 7 and 8 with the Election Order as
in Exhibit "A" with the polling places as delineated
Exhibit nB"; and
WHEREAS; there is only one candidate for District

WHEREAS, no write-in
for these positions; and
WHEREAS, the City Council will declare the unopposed
candidates elected and will cancel the election for those
positions pursuant to Section 2.052 and 2.053 Texas
Election Code.~

ORDER AND NOTICE OF A GENEtL~.L ELECTION
IN THE CITY OF PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS
I, Oscar G. Ortiz, Mayor of the City of Port Arthur, Texas, as authorized by the City Council,
do hereby Order and give Notice of a General Election to be held in the City of Port Arthur, Texas,
on Saturday, May 4, 2002, between the hours of 7:00 o'clock a.m. and 7:00 o'clock p.m., for the
purpose of electing Councilmembers for Districts I, 2, 3, 4, and Positions 7 and 8. The term of
office of the Councilmembers from Districts 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be for three (3) years and until their
respective successor shall have been elected and duly qualified. The term of office of the
Councilmembers from Positions 7 and 8 will be two (2) years and until their respective successors
shall have been elected and duly qualified. Candidates may file an application with the Acting Cit.,,'
Secretary for a place on the ballot be~nning on February 18, 2002 through March 20, 2002.
Said election shall be by Electronic Voting System as provitted in Section 123.001 of the
Election Code. The location of each polling place is shown on Exhibit "B". Early voting by person.al

Texas, in accordance with the provisions of Section 2.052 of the Texas Election Code, do
hereby certify that as of the expiration of the filing deadline for candidates to have their
names placed on the ballot for election to the positions of Port Commissioners upon
expiration on the first Saturday of May, 2002, of the terms of Carl Snider and Robert
Sexton, no candidates other than Commissioners Carl Snider and Robert Sexton filed
applications to have their names placed in candidacy. Accordingly, I do hereby further
certify as to the unopposed status of the incumbent candidates Carl Snider and Robert
