HomeMy WebLinkAbout(1) RESIDENTIAL DEMOLITION BIDSMemo To= Steve Fitzgibbons, City Manager Front=Lawrence Baker, Director of Community Services~/ Date: 05/01/02 Report on Proposal to Utilize Informal Bidding Procedure For Residential Demolition Packages I would like to propose utilizing informal bids for the demolition of smell groups of residential structures. Staff would not have to advertise the proposed groups for demolition. We would not have to require a pre-bid conference. This would allow staff the opportunity to respond to complaints regarding condemned dangerous structures faster. Staff would submit to the Purchasing Department a group of structures ready for demolition. Purchasing would fax this list to all demolition contractors and request a quote for performing the work. Once the quotes have been received, staff= would prepare a resolution for Coundl action recommending award to the lowest and responsible bidder. As long as the quotes do not exceed $15,000, we would not have to prepare formal bids. Currently, the Demolition Division prepares all residential structures for formal bids. Utiliz~on of this procedure mey indirectly impact the bid prices. This could increase the amount of structures we would be able to demolish in the long term. The utilization of this procedure would aid the Demolition Division in preparing structures for demolition in a shorter time pedod. Implementation of this procedure will increase the number of structures being demolished over a pedod of time. It mey lower the cost of demolition for some structures. It will reduce the amount of funds being used to advertise for demolition projects. This reduction in funds for adverlJsement can be used to demolish more structures. ® Page I
